Bonus Challenge #9

Since today is Mother’s Day (at least in the U.S. and maybe some other countries too), I thought it’d be fun to do a mom-themed challenge!  This one is just for moms, though you can always tweak it about what you are looking forward to in being a mother, or write it about your own mother.  (Or you can always do Bonus Challenge #1, which was the bonus challenge last Mother’s Day.)

What do you love about being a mother?

To do this challenge, you can write a simple list of the perks you find in motherhood, you can write about the things you did you prepare to be a mother, you can record some of your favorite motherhood moments, or even some of the things your kids do that make your heart melt.

------------
What I did:

I just made started making a simple digital scrapbook layout describing my desires to be a mother when I was a little girl, the kind of mother I was going to be, and the reality of my life as a mother, as well as some of things I love about my boys.

I have not finished this yet—obviously.  I wanted to find a picture of me as a little girl, then one when my first son was born (when I became a mother), and then the last one I will take with my boys for Mother’s Day this year.  The template is from Scrapping With Liz, and I haven’t even done anything more to it than move around a few of the elements.  I really liked the colors of it, so I’m still trying to decide whether to add in digital paper & elements or just keep it.

Now I challenge you to record what you love about being a mother!

Bonus Challenge #9

When I was a child, we would always tease our parents or siblings by telling them there was a spider in his or her hair.  We would ESPECIALLY do this on April Fools Day.  One year I told my mom there was a spider in her hair.  She of course didn’t believe me…but really there was!  She didn’t believe it until my dad got a napkin and killed it!  Since today is April Fools Day, I thought it’d be fun to record about it.

What is one of your most memorable April Fools Days? (Or jokes?)

You can record something that you did to someone, or something that happened to you.  Write about all of them that you can remember.  Or if you’re short on time, just time yourself for one minute and make a list of all the pranks you’ve gotten away with or didn’t get away with!  You can even record about today.

----------------
What I did:

I made a digital layout without pictures, because I didn’t have any.  It tell the story of when I broke my arm on April Fools Day—which I don’t care to repeat!

Template from Jessica Sprague (modified a bit), papers created by me, fonts: Mountains of Christmas, CK Ali’s Handwriting.

Now I challenge you to record about a memorable April Fools Day that you’ve had!

Bonus Challenge #8—A Day In The Life…

I love it when I come across ideas for recording life that just resonate with me.  I saw a video on Becky Higgins’ blog, submitted by one of her readers.  The reader, Kris, made the commitment to do a video recording of snippets of her entire day, then set it to music.

WOW!  What a wonderful idea, and so with that I’m going to issue the same challenge to you to record snippets of one day of your life.  You can set it to music like Kris did, or you can just put the pieces together!

Check out Kris’ fun video here!  Then go make one of your own!  (I’m making mine tomorrow, and will have it up for you to see sometime…depends on how long it takes to put it together!)

Bonus Challenge #7—Gratitude

I came across an awesome challenge for the month of November—a gratitude challenge!  How awesome is this?

Crystal Wilkerson is doing a gratitude challenge, with prompts everyday to help you remember to be grateful!

I am going to be taking the challenge, and I hope you will be too!  As part of the challenge, you can download the 30 designed quotes for $5—all of which will be going to the Norton family.  Check out the story here, and please take the challenge with me!

Bonus Challenge #6—Simple Things

So many times we get so caught up on all that we need to do, that we forget to remember those small things that make us smile.

The bonus challenge: Record at least 5 simple things in your life that make you happy!

You can do this by making a quick list somewhere where you can add to it whenever you think of something.  Sit down for a set amount of time and write what makes you happy until your time is up.  Get out the video camera and record those simple things.  Take pictures of simple moments or things.  However you want to do it!

Last week we were at my oldest son’s flag football game and it was a double-header.  Well, when you’re 4, 2 and 2, watching your big brother play football for 2 hours is NOT so fun.  So, my younger 3 went to the baseball diamond behind the football game and started playing with the dirt.  When I saw them (and the amazing lighting with the sunset and dirt in the air!) I wanted to capture this moment of childhood innocence.   They were running the bases, pretending to be baseball stars.  It was a moment of pure happiness for this mama!

Now I challenge you to go record some of your simple moments of happiness!

Bonus Challenge #5—Where Were You When The World Stopped Turning?

Today’s bonus challenge has a special place in my heart.   It’s the 10 year anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks—a day that I remember all too well.  And though I live thousands of miles away, and didn’t know anyone personally who died or who was affected by this tragedy, I was in college and therefore old enough to remember it well.

I’m not sure how people outside of the U.S. felt about this day, so the title for the challenge comes from the song by Alan Jackson and not with the assumption that I think the whole world felt the same way those in the U.S. did.  (I would be interested in knowing though, if you want to leave a comment!)  If this affected you in any way, I encourage you to record your thoughts on it in commemoration of the 10 year anniversary of this tragedy.  It may be hard to do, but I also know that recording tragic times can help with the healing process as well.

I made this scrapbook page to post on my personal blog.

10 years ago TIMC

I actually visited New York City in 1995, and put a picture I took of the towers on it.  Then I visited again in 2003, and put a picture of our visit to ground zero.  I found a 9/11 picture online (here on ABC’s site) for the middle picture.  Fonts: My Own Topher, Century Gothic.  The background is just a picture of a flag that I took.

Here are a couple of good videos I found.  I loved watching these again because it really helped me recall my feelings on this day 10 years ago.  (Beware—these are tear jerkers, so grab some tissues.)

Video #1—Sung by Alan Jackson

Video #2—Sung by The Hit Crew  (I really loved the images in this one.)

If you are looking for some images to put with your challenge, I found this site, that to the best of their knowledge, are permissible to use.

Bonus Challenge #4--From Your Childhood

Another fun idea I came across today via Becky Higgins:  go through some of your childhood things! Record them somehow, show them to your children, scan or take a picture of them, or you could even gather a bunch of it up and take a video of you telling about them!  How great of an idea is this?  You can see what Becky found from her childhood here!

Bonus Challenge #3: Record Your Community

I saw this idea and thought it'd be fun to make it a challenge.  Rebecca Cooper shared an idea on her blog to photograph your community!  (The pictures are from her blog--she lives on a small island in the Caribbean.) Wouldn't that be fun to take pictures of where you live right now, so you can remember "when" in 20 years?  I would seriously LOVE to have pictures from my childhood of the town I grew up in!

I challenge you to go around your community and record the way it is now!  I promise, you'll be glad you did!

Bonus Challenge #2--Ode to Men

Since today is Father’s Day, I thought I’d throw a bonus challenge in today:

Who are the most influential men in your life?

Record who they are and why! (And it doesn’t have to be someone who is a dad either. It could be a neighbor, a teacher, a leader, a friend.)

Bonus Challenge #1--Ode to Women

If you need a bonus challenge this week, here's one for you: "Who are the most influential women in your life, and why?"
(Because Sunday was Mother's Day, I hope this one is easy to do!)
